RECENT NEWS
EPA's Spring 2019 Unified Agenda of Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions Shows Commitment to Strong Environmental Protection and Regulatory Reform. The reg agenda continues to support President Trump's commitment to regulatory reform while simultaneously advancing the Agency's core mission of protecting human health and the environment. Along with 35 actions that are appearing for the first time, this agenda lists 57 actions that are expected to be deregulatory. "From reducing NOx emissions from heavy-duty trucks to cost-benefit reforms to addressing emerging chemicals of concern, EPA's latest regulatory agenda reflects the Trump Administration's commitment to protecting the nation's air, water, and land while at the same time alleviating unnecessary regulatory burdens," said EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler.

$2.6 Billion in New Funding to Improve Water Infrastructure Across the U.S. The funds will assist states, tribes and territories with improving drinking water and wastewater infrastructure across the country. This funding advances President Trump's efforts to rebuild the country's aging water infrastructure, create local jobs, and ensure all Americans have safe and clean water. "EPA is delivering on President Trump's commitment to modernize our nation's water infrastructure and improve public health and environmental protections," said Administrator Wheeler. "EPA's $2.6 billion contribution to the State Revolving Funds will enable more communities to make the investments needed to ensure Americans have safe water for drinking and recreation."

Superfund List Updates:
- EPA added seven sites to the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL) where releases of contamination pose human health and environmental risks. The NPL includes the nation's most serious uncontrolled or abandoned releases of contamination. "By adding these sites to the National Priorities List, we are taking action to clean up some of the nation's most contaminated sites, protect the health of the local communities, and return the sites to safe and productive reuse," said EPA Administrator Wheeler. "We've elevated the Superfund program to a top priority, and in Fiscal Year 2018, EPA deleted all or part of 22 sites from the NPL, the largest number of deletions in one year since Fiscal Year 2005."

- EPA proposed to add two new sites to the NPL, following the agency's [above] announcement that it has finalized seven more sites on the NPL. When EPA proposes to add a site to the NPL, the agency issues a public notice about its intention, so interested members of the community can comment on the proposal. The following two sites are being proposed for addition to the NPL:
- Schroud Property in Chicago, Illinois
- Arsenic Mine in Kent, New York

EPA Awards Over $9.3 Million to Clean Up School Buses. Over $9.3 million will help replace older diesel school buses in 145 school bus fleets in 43 states or territories. The new buses will reduce pollutants that are linked to health problems such as asthma and lung damage. "Children's health is a top priority for EPA, and these grants will help provide cleaner air and a healthier ride to and from school for America's children," said EPA's Andrew Wheeler.

Learn more about Harmful Algal Blooms or HABs. Certain environmental conditions in water bodies can intensify algae growth, causing algal blooms. Blooms that produce toxins with the potential to harm human health or aquatic ecosystems are referred to as harmful algal blooms. Such blooms can harm people, animals, aquatic ecosystems, drinking water supplies, and other problems. Check out EPA's new web site about harmful algal blooms (HABs) caused by cyanobacteria and ways EPA, states, territories, and tribes are working to address them.

RECENT NEWS
First-Ever Comprehensive Nationwide PFAS Action Plan. EPA released the Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Action Plan, which responds to extensive public interest and input the agency has received over the past year and represents the first time EPA has built a multi-media, multi-program, national communication and research plan to address an emerging environmental challenge like PFAS. "The PFAS Action Plan is the most comprehensive cross-agency plan to address an emerging chemical of concern ever undertaken by EPA," said EPA's Andrew Wheeler. "For the first time in Agency history, we utilized all of our program offices to construct an all-encompassing plan to help states and local communities address PFAS and protect our nation's drinking water."

WIFIA Water Loan. A $202 million Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act loan will help finance water infrastructure upgrades that will better protect public health and water quality for 1.8 million Baltimore residents. "This WIFIA loan will help Baltimore modernize its wastewater infrastructure, protect human health, and prevent sewage and polluted runoff from entering the Chesapeake Bay," said EPA's Andrew Wheeler. "Through WIFIA, EPA is playing a leading role in President Trump's efforts to upgrade our nation's infrastructure, create jobs, and safeguard public health and the environment."

2018 Annual Environmental Enforcement Results. EPA worked with state and tribal programs to assure compliance with federal environmental laws.
