Today's question:
Q: What do you think of the Chevy Volt? I have a Prius and I am thinking of buying a Volt when they become available. What do you think?
A: The Volt prototypes I've driven are impressive: Smooth, powerful, good-looking, seamless transition between battery-only and electricity-via-gasoline-powered-generator. I like the idea of an on-board generator to extend the range beyond the battery-only 40-mile range (perfect conditions, presumably) that GM says. The Prius hatchback layout makes it very practical, and the latest version is more fun to drive. It's a car with a track record, while Volt isn't. I'd give Volt a year or two on the road before I changed horses.
