General Assembly President Joseph Deiss will visit Japan later this month, where he will meet with top officials in the Asian nation, it was announced today.
On his five-day trip starting on 26 October at the invitation of the Japanese Government, Mr. Deiss will meet with Prime Minister Naoto Kan, Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara and other officials, as well as leaders of the Diet, the country's bicameral legislature.
On 27 October, Assembly President will attend the opening ceremony of the high-level segment of the tenth conference of parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Nagoya.
Also on his visit, he will pay tribute to atomic bomb victims when stops at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial and will meet with survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki blasts.
Mr. Deiss also plans to give at lecture at the UN University (<"UNU">UNU) in Tokyo and meet with the UN Country Team.
