eCycle - take your old computers or other electronics to a local recycling center. This helps keep lead, cadmium, and other substances out of the landfill. Find eCycling centers near you. November 15 is America Recycles Day.

Prevent Lead Poisoning - For children, even low levels of exposure to lead can cause a host of lifetime problems such as learning disabilities, decreased intelligence and speech, language, and behavioral problems. Every October, Lead Poison Prevention Week is a reminder to protect children.

Nominate a Teacher! The 2011 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators recognizes outstanding K-12 teachers who employ innovative approaches to environmental education. Two teachers from each EPA region will be selected to receive the award. Nominations are due December 30.

THIS MONTH IN EPA@40

In December 2010, EPA turned 40! Here are some key events and activities from years past that happened this month:

Nov 5, 1990 - President Bush signs the Pollution Prevention Act, emphasizing preventing environmental damage before it happens.
Nov 5, 2003 - Michael Leavitt becomes Administrator and implements higher standards for ozone, diesel fuels and other pollutants.
Nov 15, 1990 - Congress passes the Clean Air Act Amendments, imposing a new cap and trade approach to address acid rain.
Nov 16, 1990 - The National Environmental Education Act directs EPA to support environmental education programs.
Nov 16, 2004 - Methane to Markets International Partnership launched to foster use of methane as a clean energy source.
Nov 17, 1988 - Congress bans ocean-dumping of sewage sludge and industrial waste.
