ENVIRO-TIP OF THE MONTH

 

Prepare for disaster before it strikes. June marks the beginning of hurricane season in the U.S. Individuals, communities, and businesses can plan ahead for safety, shortages, and storm cleanup.

Clean Power Plan. EPA's new proposal will cut carbon pollution from existing power plants 30 percent by 2030. Find out more about this proposal, how you can comment, and what you can do to #ActOnClimate.

Energy Star dryers. If you're shopping for a new clothes dryer, look for the Energy Star label to help choose a highly efficient electric, gas, or compact dryer. Dryers meeting the Energy Star standard use a variety of technologies to help save energy such as improved dryness sensors, heat pumps to recapture hot air, and "smart grid" connectivity with participating power utilities.

Hot tips for a cool summer:

  • Save energy in summer and fight climate change. Get tips to reduce energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions in warm weather.

  • Don't Fry - Any Day. Avoid overexposure to the sun's harmful UV rays. Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, is the most common cancer among young adults aged 15-29. Get more ideas for sun safety.

Try EnviroAtlas. EPA's new EnviroAtlas tool is designed to help communities and researchers make informed policy and planning decisions related to the environment and ecosystems. EnviroAtlas includes over 300 data layers, letting you analyze how decisions affect ecosystems and their ability to provide goods and services.
