MEET EPA'S NEW ADMINISTRATOR
On February 17, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt was confirmed and sworn in as the 14th Administrator of EPA. Administrator Pruitt believes promoting and protecting a strong and healthy environment is one of the lifeblood priorities of the government, and EPA is a vital part of that mission.
As Administrator, Mr. Pruitt will lead EPA in a way that our future generations inherit a better and healthier environment while advancing America's economic interests. He is committed to working with the thousands of dedicated public servants at EPA who have devoted their careers to helping realize this shared vision, while faithfully administering environmental laws.

ENVIRO-TIP OF THE MONTH
Protect children from accidental poisoning by household substances. Lock up household pesticides, cleaners, and chemicals in a high cabinet out of the reach of children. March 20-26 is National Poison Prevention Week.

WHAT YOU CAN DO, WHAT YOU CAN USE
Go Green-Scaping. March is when we typically begin to think of springtime - lawns, flowers, and being outdoors. Get ideas and useful tips on environmentally friendly practices to improve the health and appearance of your lawn and garden.

Toxic Release Inventory. The annual TRI data release and national analysis provide citizens with vital information about toxic chemical releases in their community. The TRI National Analysis shows releases of toxic chemicals into the air fell 56 percent from 2005-2015 at industrial facilities submitting data to the TRI program. Fish Consumption Advice. EPA and FDA issued advice regarding fish consumption. The advice is designed to help pregnant or breastfeeding women make informed choices about fish that are healthy and safe to eat. Learn more about the fish consumption advice.

EPA Exhibit. If you're in the Washington DC area, be sure to check out the EPA Headquarters Exhibit. The exhibit features displays, artifacts, and videos that explore the history of environmental protection in America and ways EPA protects public health and the environment. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday, 9 am - 4 pm. Learn more and how to visit the exhibit.

Nominations and Challenges:
2017 Enviro Ed Nominations. Know a teacher who teaches about the environment? The Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators recognizes outstanding K-12 teachers who use innovative approaches to environmental education, and use the environment as a context for learning for their students. The nomination period is open now thru March.

P3 Applications Opened in December. It's the 14th annual People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) Student Design Competition! Under P3, college teams apply for grants to develop and display innovative solutions for a sustainable future. P3 offers students quality hands-on experience that brings classroom learning to life.
