Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will travel to Kazakhstan this weekend to address the summit of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the United Nations announced today.

The meeting in the capital, Astana, will be the first OSCE summit in over a decade and brings together heads of State and government of participating States.

During his visit to Kazakhstan, the Secretary-General will hold several bilateral meetings with top officials on the sidelines of the summit to discuss various issues, including UN-OSCE cooperation.

With 56 participating States from Europe, Central Asia and North America, the OSCE forms the largest regional security organization in the world. It is a primary instrument for early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation in its area.
