GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT HOLDS TALKS WITH OTHER LEADING UN OFFICIALS

Sustainable development and the rule of law have topped the agenda during talks between the General Assembly President and other top United Nations officials at UN Headquarters in New York.

Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser met yesterday with Supachai Panitchpakdi, the Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and discussed a range of issues, including sustainable development, global prosperity, the revitalization of the General Assembly, next week''s summit in Cannes, France, of the G-20 group of major economies.

Mr. Al-Nasser and Dr. Supachai also discussed the agenda of UNCTAD''s 13th session, scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, in April next year.

The Assembly President also met yesterday with Judge Hisashi Owada, the current President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), also known as the World Court.

d greater cooperation between the General Assembly and the ICJ as well as the court''s role in promoting the rule of law, according to information released by a spokesperson for the Assembly President.
