ENVIRO-TIP OF THE MONTH
Prepare for disaster before it strikes. This is the beginning of hurricane season in the US. Individuals, communities, and businesses can plan ahead for safety, shortages, and storm cleanup.

WHAT YOU CAN DO, WHAT YOU CAN USE
Don't Fry - Any Day. The start of the summer season is a reminder to practice sun safety and avoid overexposure to the sun's harmful UV rays. If you are going to the beach, working around the yard, or just playing outdoors, use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, cover up, and seek shade. Melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, is the most common cancer among young adults aged 15-29. The Friday before Memorial Day is Don't Fry Day.

Communities:
- New Communities Site. EPA's new Community Resources website provides access to resources that span the range of local concerns -- from environmental regulatory compliance to economic revitalization to public health and environmental justice. The site was designed with input from local, state, and federal partners.

A new online training helps community leaders understand and plan for climate change impacts. Learn to Prevent Asthma Attacks. Take steps to reduce or avoid asthma attacks, such as identifying asthma triggers or checking the air quality where you are. One in 10 kids in America suffers from asthma, and communities of color and low-income families are disproportionately affected.

Reducing Marine Debris. A new toolkit is designed to help college campuses and other institutions cut plastic waste to help reduce marine debris and coastal pollution. The toolkit offers users a plastic footprint calculator, source reduction plans, ideas for alternate purchasing practices, successful examples from other institutions, and more.

Don't Get Bitten. Learn ways to control mosquitos, for example, draining water where mosquitos breed, or using pesticides safely. June is Mosquito Control Month.
