ENVIRO-TIP OF THE MONTH

Don't sunburn. The UV Index predicts the strength of solar rays. Check your UV Index so you know how strong the sun's rays will be, and avoid sun overexposure. July is UV Safety month.

WHAT YOU CAN DO, WHAT YOU CAN USE

Volkswagen Settlement. If you drive a Volkswagen or Audi 2-liter diesel vehicle, you may be affected by the June 28 settlement with WV. The settlement requires Volkswagen to offer owner of any affected vehicle the option to have the company buy back the car and to offer lessees a lease cancellation at no cost, and potentially other options to reduce emissions. Read more about the settlement and how to find out what you can do.

Hot tips for a cool summer:

  • Check the air quality before you go out - to run, to play, or just to do yard work. Poor air quality can aggravate asthma or other lung conditions in sensitive individuals.

  • Get more energy savings. Change your air filters. Tune up your HVAC. Find out more what you can do to help reduce emissions during summer.

  • Avoid extreme heat. When a heat wave is predicted, prepare for reduced air quality and increased energy use.

Got WaterSense?  If you're shopping for new water fixtures, look for the WaterSense label. Products with the WaterSense label use at least 20 percent less water and perform as well or better than standard models. Since WaterSense began 10 years ago, Americans have saved $32.6 billion in water and energy bills and 1.5 trillion gallons of water.
