WHAT YOU CAN DO, WHAT YOU CAN USE

Now that you're back in school...

Rule Your Attic. EPA's third annual "ENERGY STAR Rule Your Attic" campaign starts October 3. As the weather cools down, it's a perfect time to get up in your attic and check insulation levels. Did you know that 90 percent of American homes are under-insulated?  This means that 9 out of 10 U.S. homeowners are wasting money on energy bills. Find out how you can Rule Your Attic -- to save energy, save money, increase your home's comfort, and reduce pollution that contributes to climate change.

Are You SepticSmart?  Protect it and inspect it. Don't overload the commode. Over 25 million American homes use a septic system. Proper septic system maintenance helps keep contaminants from being released, protects public health and the environment, and saves you money on repairs. Learn more about how you can be SepticSmart all year 'round.

Smart City Air Challenge (due Oct 28).  This new challenge encourages US communities to install hundreds of air quality sensors and manage the resulting data. EPA is offering two US communities up to $40,000 each to work with their residents to crowdsource air quality data and share it online. Applications are due October 28. Learn more about this and how your community can enter.
