Don't sunburn. The UV Index predicts the strength of the sun's ultraviolet rays. Check your UV Index so you know how strong the sun's rays will be, and avoid sun overexposure. July is UV Safety month.

Hot tips for a cool summer:
- Check the air quality before you go out - to run, to play, or just to do yard work. Poor air quality can aggravate asthma or other lung conditions in sensitive individuals.

- Avoid extreme heat. When a heat wave is predicted, prepare for reduced air quality and increased energy use.

Fish Advisories. Going fishin'? Fish are an important part of a healthy diet. They are a lean, low‐calorie source of protein. However, some fish may contain chemicals that could pose health risks if these fish are eaten in large amounts. Learn more about how you can select and prepare fish, so you and your family can continue to enjoy the benefits of eating fish.

Green Infrastructure in Parks. EPA has a new guide designed to help communities maximize the environmental, economic, and social benefits of parks. The guide includes information on how to identify and engage partners, build relationships, and more. It also includes recommendations about types of projects and related benefits, and case studies.

Village Green Stations. EPA and partners have opened a new Village Green station in Houston, TX. A Village Green station provides real-time air monitoring and weather information at the station and online, to help residents and citizen scientists to learn about local air quality. There are eight Village Green stations around the country.

EPA WEBINAR: Emissions Research to Improve Decision-making

Under EPA's Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, twelve universities and organizations measured and modeled emissions sources such as transportation, animal feeding operations, ships, and others; and also worked on developing new, cutting-edge techniques. Nominations for Science Boards. EPA is seeking nominations for the Science Advisory Board and Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee. Nominations will be accepted for 30 days following publication of the Federal Register notice (expected in late June).

Drinking Water Research Grant (due Aug. 15). We're seeking applications from communities for innovative research on detecting and controlling lead in drinking water, for research partnerships and collaborations with local communities potentially vulnerable for exposure to lead in drinking water. Applications should propose research to look at lead in the community's water system, including the lead found in the water supply, treatment, and distribution systems; and the potential effects of lead in drinking water on public health. Learn more about this research grant opportunity. Applications are due August 15, 2017.
