ENVIRO-TIP OF THE MONTH

Protect children from accidental poisoning by household substances. Lock up household pesticides, cleaners, and chemicals in a high cabinet out of the reach of children. March 18-24 is National Poison Prevention Week.

RECENT NEWS

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt hosted fellow Cabinet members and other key senior leaders to outline a federal strategy to reduce childhood lead exposure and associated health risks. "Lead exposure poses a significant health threat to hundreds of thousands of American children," said EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt. "By refocusing Agency efforts, we can work with our government partners to develop solutions that address lead exposure and improve health outcomes for children."

Administrator Pruitt participates in White House Infrastructure Initiative Roundtable with President Trump, other Cabinet members, and state and local officials from around the country. "President Trump's infrastructure plan will revitalize our nation's once-great infrastructure and create a safer and stronger America," said Pruitt. "We will also rebuild our nation's crumbling water infrastructure and clean up contaminated land, both of which are critical to environmental protection and economic growth in our communities."

A Clean and Healthy Wood Burning Season. Do you use wood to heat your home? Whether you're in New England or anywhere else cold, it's still wood burning season! Wood smoke is made up of a mixture of fine particles and toxic gases that can harm your health. Exposure to wood smoke increases susceptibility to respiratory infections and, in people with heart disease has been linked to heart problems. By following some wood-burning tips, you can help ensure that wood is burned safely and efficiently while protecting the health of your family.

2018 Enviro Ed Nominations (due March 30). Know a teacher who teaches about the environment? The Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators recognizes outstanding K-12 teachers who use innovative approaches to environmental education, and use the environment as a context for learning for their students. The nomination period is open thru March 30.
