Today's question:
Q: I really like the Audi A3 but it seems that every reviewer and car mag says save your money and buy a VW Golf. Does this theory hold true down the line? Buy a Jetta over an A4, Passat over an A6?
A: No. There's enough difference in Audi's execution that it's easy to see why a person might spend extra on the Audi. And the powertrains aren't always identical. Audis are just class-on-a-stick, and while VWs are pretty premium, they're just not in the same league. But it's also easy to see why a relatively budget-minded person would eschew Audis for VWs. Easy to argue both sides of that one. Check the JDPower and Consumer Reports scores on the specific models you're weighing.
