New York, Apr 9 2010 6:10PM
The President of the General Assembly Ali Treki today headed to Kuwait after wrapping up a three-day visit to Yemen where he had talks with senior Government officials on international maritime piracy and other regional challenges.

Dr. Treki is in the midst of a 15-day tour of the Middle East, which has already taken him to Syria and will end in Bahrain on 14 April.

He invited Yemeni Foreign Minister Abubakr al-Qirby to participate in an informal meeting of the General Assembly on international maritime piracy in New York on 14 May.

Dr. Treki thanked Yemen for the country's role in the United Nations, particularly in its capacity as the Chair of the so-called Group of 77 and China, the biggest group of Member States in the General Assembly.

The two officials also discussed the preparations for the Millennium Development Goals (<"http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/">MDGs) summit to be held in New York in September, which will chart the global progress so far towards the eight social and economic targets.
