General Assembly President Ali Treki voiced sadness after learning of the earthquake that struck western China this morning, killing hundreds of people and injuring thousands more.
Media reports say the quake, which registered 7.1 on the Richter scale, was centred in Qinghai province and took place just before 8 a.m.
In a statement issued by his office, Dr. Treki "expresses solidarity with and sends his condolences and prayers to the people and Government of China on this tragedy."
