College student teams can develop innovative approaches to stormwater management, raise awareness of green design, and train the next generation of landscape architects, planners, and engineers. Students and advisors can start planning now; the competition opens fall 2012. Ideas for Marinas. If you work at or use a marina, help keep the water clean. Inspect above-ground fuel storage tanks to eliminate spills and leaks. Clean hulls out of the water. Use less-toxic propylene glycol antifreeze. This was written for New York but the ideas can be used at any marina. Don't Fry - Any Day! With the start of the summer season, avoid overexposure to the sun's harmful "UV" rays. Put on sunscreen, wear a hat, sunglasses, and a t-shirt. Melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, is on the rise in America and is the most common cancer among young adults aged 25-29. Read about Action Steps for Sun Safety. Look Up Your Drinking Water. EPA published a list of 28 chemicals and two viruses that approximately 6,000 public water systems will monitor from 2013 to 2015. This is an opportunity for you to try EPA's database of information submitted by public water systems to their state environmental agencies. ENDING SOON Six Words for the Planet.
