Today's question:
Q: What are your thoughts on the Toyota situation?
A: I can't make up my mind on Toyota. One side says Americans love Toyota enough that a year from now you won't see any effect of the current problems (assuming more don't keep popping up). The other side says it'll give people an excuse to try, maybe for the first time, a Ford or Chevy and discover how great Detroit cars have become; force them to put aside decades of prejudice. And once they leave Toyota, it'll be hard to get them back. I also wonder if we're seeing only the tip of the iceberg. That more and more issues will, in fact, continue to surface and the Toyota taint will extend long enough to damage the company's image long-term.
