The top United Nations official in Darfur has concluded a two-day visit to Djibouti, where he briefed the country's President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh on recent developments in the conflict-affected region of western Sudan.

Mr. Gambari, who heads the AU-UN mission in Darfur (<"http://www.un.org/en/peacekeeping/missions/unamid/">UNAMID) and is the Joint Special Representative to the region, stressed the importance during his meeting with Mr. Guelleh of implementing early recovery and development projects in Darfur, saying they must go hand-in-hand with efforts to enhance security, while pursuing the peace process.

The Special Representative, who was accompanied by several senior UNAMID officials on the visit to Djibouti on Tuesday and Wednesday, commended Mr. Guelleh for his efforts to promote peace and development not only in Djibouti, but also in States that are members of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) regional group.
